168. Defying peoples expectations and enjoying 'The Godfather'

My film taste is a little particular I prefer cheerful films with happy ending. I was brought up on Disney and my Mothers favourite genre Rom-Coms. Most children get a range as they have the Dad who enjoys action adventure or scary horror or general mans films which gives them a love of all the genres. As my Dad is not really a film watcher and prefers plays I am lacking this childhood. Although I did get to the classic action adventure family fims like Pirates of the Caribbean and Harry Potter my introduction to other genres was somewhat lacking until Best Friend came along. She is the biggest film nerd I know and without her there are thousands of films I would never of seen, I like to think my taste is getting slightly broader due to our friendship. I still like to close my eyes during the horrible scene but I'm taking it slowly and widening my fim knowledge. This is why the other day when I was babysitting and sick of revision when finding 'The Godfather' was one of the only things on I thought 'why not?' I suprised myself when I started to really enjoy it, there is something about old films that I just love they have that edge. It was an odd film at times and I did manage to convince myself something happened that didn't because of my eye closing (it was a horses head not his leg I got someone elses authority on this) but I really enjoyed the feeling it had attatched to it. Also knowing the context of the classic quotes "You come to me on the day of my daughters wedding" "It's not personal it's business" is brilliant. Anyway it really made me smile (also telling people I watched 'The Godfather' and enjoyed it has not yet lost it's novelty value).
