56. Short conversations with people behind the till

There is actually a lot I could have chosen about this day that made me smile but it was this incident which I think was the most suprisingly cheering. I had been on a train for an hour already and had half an hour before my connection train back home so I went into boots for a snack. When I got up to the till the Man behind asked me if I had had a nice day in a genuinely interested manor and so while he scanned my stuff I had a little chat with him, I am not usually that comfortable talking with strangers but he just seemed like a lovely man who just wanted a little chat and to get the most out of his job. It just made me happy.

55. Watching your 'manly' friend go swimming in the sea in February

I went to the beach it was beautiful. One of the highlights of this trip was watching my Long Distance Friend, his Trini (from Trinidad my Long Distance Friend is also from their but thats another story) Friend I had met the previous day and his Friend who I had never met run full pelt into the cold, cold English sea. They came out shivering with goosebumps it was wonderful to see.
I was watching this debacle with a Girl I had met the previous day who found it equally as funny as I did and built a sancastle with me when they went off to be 'Men' and climb rocks because thats what 'Real Men' do. One of the best days I have had in a while really cheered me up.

54. Meeting a group of people who you instantly get on with

As previously mentioned this week I went on a trip to see my Long Distance Friend and I was introduced to a few of his friends and they were really nice. Then on Wednesday (the day I was supposed to write this) I was introduced to his 'snuggle' group (I'm not too sure either), they welcomed me with open arms by the end of the day I felt like one of them, they shared some of my great loves or ones that my Friends up here have. It was just really nice to feel so included. Also one of them was equally excited about going to the beach the next day and helped me persuade my Long Distance Friend and another of his friends that they also wanted to go. It really made my day.

53. Seeing a film for the third time at the cinema because it was that good

I am an avid cinema goer and so have seen many good films, but perhaps my favourite type of films are those that you can go see three times in the span of which they are out and enjoy them every single time.
This time for me it was Tangled, now I know this could bee deemed a 'children's' film, but aren't we all just children trying to pretend we are grown up? I was brought up by Disney and have been saddened by the fact that most of the 'Disney' (I use the quotation marks as I don't think of them as true Disney) films the younger generation will remember are things such as High School Musical and Hannah Montana. Now these may be enjoyable on a base level but they just don't compare to Beauty and the Best, The Lion King, Mulan, The Hunchback of Notre Dame etc. However Tangled is a film which just takes me right back to my innocent childhood, to true Disney and it really made me smile especially on my third showing with my Long Distance Friend. (I also enjoyed the fact that the horse reminded me slightly of one of my friends, he doesn't know this though).

52. Discovering sandwich

There is a place called Sandwich, I went on a walk there, I also got a free coaster that has a sign on it which points to Ham (also a place) and Sandwich so it says Ham Sandwich... need I say more? Pretty much made my year.

51. When someone is totally oblivious to the fact that everyone is taking the mic out of them (not in a mean way)

Now I could not help but add this one even though it happened on the same day to the last, I have decided to miss a day as it makes me smile to think of it even days after.
I went to a Strangers house the other day (she was a friend of a friend of Long Distance Friend) and she had her cousin over who was the most Geordie person I have ever met, she was also very loud and... lets just say the phrase "lights are on but nobodies home" sprang to mind. That was not to say she wasn't nice, she was lovely, just quite a force to behold. Most people in the room had a little difficulty understanding her and there was one who openly mocked her Geordie-ness, her cousin casually teased her but most people just silently laughed occasionally. She realised she was being mocked slightly by the one who openly teased her but she only clicked occasionally. She was very funny to behold, in fact I have to agree with a guy who arrived later it was very difficult not to mock her, she almost set herself up for it in some cases, no one mocked her in a cruel way it was all light-hearted. It made me smile.

50. When you meet a stranger who needs your expertise

I am currently on a crazy jaunt at my Long Distance Friends house, which was why my previous post was about trains (also why I haven't posted on time).
The other day I met some of his Friends and one of them was going to a masquerade ball in the evening and wanted his make up doing and I happen to have some skill when it comes to that area (no considerable but crazy make-up is something I enjoy doing) and as of the other two options one was a Crazy Geordie who he didn't trust near his eyes and the other said she would not put eyeliner on his bottom lid because it was weird I was his only choice. After I had done (he wanted black fading into red around his eyes and black cracks and swirls on his face) he said he wanted to take me everywhere with him in a suitcase I think I did a good job.
When your handiwork is appreciated it's always a good moment, and it really made my day.

49. When a stranger tells you they like your hat

I was just casually sitting on the train today smiling away and a man walks past and casually complimented the fine hat I had on. It was a beautiful moment, really made my day.

48. Drinking an entire carton of Orange Juice

I didn't use to like orange juice then last year I think it was, something changed and I started to crave this heaven juice, there is just something about it that is so good. When I get through an entire (1litre) carton in a day... I feel like I have achieved something. Really makes me smile.

47. A nice thick pair of socks

As the great allmighty, Dumbledore himself once said: "One can never have enough socks, another Christmas has come and gone and I didnt get a single pair. People will insist on giving me books."
There is just something about pulling on a thick pair of socks and having my feet warmed right up that puts me in a good mood.

46. Cuddling up nice and warm in a thick duvet

There is just something about wrapping my duvet around me and sitting like a marshmallow that brings joy to my heart. It feels like my duvet is giving me a hug, really makes me smile.

45. When my Best Friend buys me soft mints

There are so many good things that happened today... but my Best Friend bought me a packet of spearmint softmints, what can beat that?

44. Finishing an essay you have been working on for weeks (on and off)

Well actually my story is a little bit more complicated that that. A couple of months ago we wrote two essays which at the beginning of this year we were set the task of combining for this week. I am a bit of a procastanist, so although I have been trying to work on it for weeks, I only started my hardcore assault on it two days ago. I took a while and I finished it about 1:30 yesterday morning (as this is yesterdays post). The relief that washed through me was just immense. I attatched it to an email to myself (so I could print it of on a different computer) and wrote a capitalised 'yes' with a swear word infront of it (I think you can guess which one), I was that relieved; and I don't normally swear, (I don't disagree with swearing I just don't really it feels odd on my tongue) but in this instance I felt it was needed. I may have gone 355 words over the limit so have a few words to cut, but the bulk of it is done, the hard part is over, now it's just trimming that is needed. It really made my day.

43. Watching a man who knows how to work his chocolate (this is not an innuendo if you thought it was you are very odd indeed)

We went to Cadbury's World the other day and it was fantastic. One of the highlights was watching this man pour melted chocolate onto a slab of marble (that he had poured into a jug via a tap... he had a chocolate tap!) and work his magic to create handmade chocolate. Just watching him spread it then gather it, even though we did not get to eat that particular lot of chocolate, it was beautiful. My Little Sister decided she wanted to marry him on the spot. It really made me smile.

42. The bacon sandwich

Whoever first created bacon must have realised it was destined for great things. Everyone has their preferences some like it with mayo, some with lettace, others fry the bread in the bacon fat left over... there are so many different ways to enjoy the bacon sandwich, but it wouldn't be the same sandwich without the bacon. I would write a poem about it, but I could never write a poem as lovely as bacon.
There are those days (the best days) when everything to do with the sandwich goes right, the bread is the perfect thickness, the bacon done to perfection (I like mine quite crispy), the <insert own preference here and how perfect it can go(for me the melting of the butter that soaks into the bread)> and it's on those days that from the moment you take the first bite to the moment you swallow the last you have a huge smile spread across your face (well I know I do).
I had a bacon sandwich for lunch today, can you tell?... What was that?... 'How was it?' you say? Well it certainly made my day (... at least I amuse myself).

41. Making chocolate cake

There is just something about making chocolate cake that I love, especially 'Brooklyn Blackout Cake', it could be because eating the mixture as you go along is wonderful or it may be the thought of the finished product (which was heavenly). The was one panic moment where I thought I had ruined the whole thing (well the chocolate custard topping) but it all turned out in the end... maybe thats why it was so nice. Anyway making chocolate cake really cheered me up

40. When your Best Friend accidently brings a cushion to the cinema

I don't think I need to elaborate this one (I know it's an obscure one and you may never actually experience it yourself, but doesn't knowing it happened somewhere, just make you smile?), I was in stitches. Definately made my day.

39. When a child does something nice you just didn't expect

I think I have mentioned this previously but I am a young leader at Rainbows (small girls (5-7 possibly), an hour, once a week, different activities) and this week on my table (this week we had a selection of activity tables) they were decorating biscuits and lets just say they are not the neatest when it comes to Hundreds and Thousands. Anyway I was just clearing up afterwards and one of the leaders little boy (who was there on a one time thing) who had been running around all evening -at one point he even started following me which was quite amusing- came up to me and handed me a dustpan just to help me out and it was just a lovely moment... a little odd I know but it definately cheered me up while I was clearing up.

38. That rush of ideas when you start something

I have been attempting to start this essay for more than a week and yesterday about 11:00 that feeling hit me. I have been staring at a blank document and thoughout the week have done various pieces of research in an attempt to at least get it started and... nothing I just couldn't do it. I was looking over the research and it was like something clicked in my head and my brain went "yes! You can do this". Don't get me wrong I didn't write alot but I wrote something I have a basis for the rest of the essay, something to work with and that makes me happy.

37. damnyouautocorrect.com

This site made my sunday evening I should have been doing coursework but I worked myself into such a state that I wasn't good for anything and through a bit of browsing the internet in a random fashion I come across this gem of a website. I haven't laughed that hard at a website in a while. It shouldn't be that funny but it is I dont know what it is about it. I know it isn't just my sense of humour, or the state I was in, this was proved when I showed it to my Best Friend today and she also found it histerical. Really cheered me up.

36. Getting lost in fiction

My Best Friend lent me a book the other day on the strict orders that I was allowed it for three days and that was all, as it was so good she didn't want it out of her sight for too long. The second day came and on the way to my afternoon bath I remembered I had it and thought I would read a couple of chapters... I couldn't put it down. Before the bath got too cold I got out and lay in bed totally immersed in the story. When it reached the evening I was nearing the end when my Practically Sister came in and I had to ask her to wait a few minutes while I finished it off. I love the feeling of getting lost in a book, it really made my day.
(by the way if you're wondering what the book was its called Paper Towns and its written by John Green I would defintely recommend that you read it).

35. The perfect chocolate mousse

It is a glorious moment when you find a version of a well loved pudding which has no faults, nothing could be added to make it any better. This is what happened the other day when my Literary Friend invited me my Best Friend and a Good Friend of mine round for supper (he is just that kind of fellow). He brought out the family cutlery set and presented us with a simply marvelous three course meal, accompanied by fantastical conversation (also my Best Friend and I who were the only ones drinking shared a bottle and a half of wine, however we did bring that ourselves). It was a perfect evening, just when I thought it could get no better he brings out the chocolate mousse, a slightly darker layer (although not dark chocolate) underneath the top layer topped of with a piece of what I think was hard caramel with cherry pieces that he had made.
Now I like chocolate mousse I have always appreciated its place amoungst the deserts but never have I had a chocolate mousse that took me to the realms of heaven that this one did. If I had one pudding left to eat it would take alot to beat the place of this one. I think I have gone on a little to much about this pudding now so I'm going to leave it here. That chocolate mousse was the epitamy of happiness.

34. Having an endulgant tea (evening meal tea not drink tea)

Occasionally you just get in the mood to have something nice for tea and luckily I have a Little Sister who feels the same she made a beautiful tagliatelle with tomato and other things and then for pudding angel delight with a biscuit base, fantastic. She also brought us both back a chocolate milk from the supermarket, she really knows how to spoil me. Anyway it really made my day.

33. When witty comebacks just happen

Most of the time witty comeback come to mind hours even days after events and in the moment you end up stumbling over the words "yeah... well... your mums yellow...", and bam you're on the recieving end of a group of pitying looks. However occasionally there is that moment where it springs to you, the perfect comeback, you throw it out there and suddenly you are no longer the bumbling idiot it's someone else, you are the master of this argument. The other player has lost and is now sat at the bottom of the shame pile mumbling something about how your face has got legs. It's a beautiful moment, always makes my day.

32. Getting the answer you were hoping for

It's that time of the year where the A level students bite their nails and start tearing out their hair as they wait for Universities to reply to them (well those that were a little slow with their application like me). Some Universities put you out of your misery quite fast, a couple of months and it's a yes or a no, others send nothing. Days are spent obsessively refreshing email, rushing to the computer as soon as you get home in the hope there will be an offer waiting for you.
Out of the Universities I applied to there was only really one I really wanted to go to (well there was two until I found out one of them has a funny version of my course). The other three were randomly selected, low and behold they were the ones to reply first; two rejections and a conditional... I really wasn't that bothered. However it did start me worrying, what would happen if I didn't get an offer... what would I do?.. I planned for a gap year. The other day however at about 10pm I got that email saying something had changed... was this what I had been waiting for (obviously it could be the other one I had applied to)? My first attempt to log on failed as my nervous hands stumbled on my password, I quickly bypassed the welcome page and clicked 'choices', this was it the moment of truth (or not)... there it was, top of the list that wonderful word "conditional". Relief flooded my stomach, a huge grin hit me full on in the face, my future is waiting for me. I couldn't even contain my excitement long enough to pretend they had rejected me to my Mother. That was my day made.
(For those who do not understand the whole University application process you are very lucky people and I'm sure you will be able to relate to the title in some way).
